Wildfires Hit Myrtle Beach Area

More than 40 homes were destroyed and more than 2500 people forced to evacuate on thursday 23 April, as wildfires swept through a coastal region of South Carolina and headed for North Myrtle Beach. Officials of North Myrtle Beach were urgently getting locals to pack up belongings and flee the area after Governer Mark Sanford declared a state of emergency. So far no injuries have been reported since the fire began on Wednesday, yet rapidly headed toward a heavily concentrated residential and tourist area, which led to the mass evacuation and the closing of schools and businesses in North Myrtle Beach. The blaze quickly spread, from starting just west of Myrtle Beach, due to hight winds of up to 25 miles an hour and a very low humidity.
The blaze stopped short of the Intracoastal Waterway separating the mainland from the coastal area, which firefighters were hoping would act as a natural barrier.

The blaze is the worst to hit the area since 1976 and is the worst wildfire on record as far as the amount of homes lost.

NASCAR News From Saturdays Subway Fresh Fit 500

What a result for the amazing Mark Martin, his 36th victory of his career, and probobly the most fulfilling of them all.

Racing from pole position, the 50 year old finished off saturday night's Subway Fresh Fit 500, at Phoenix International Raceway, by streaking away from Tony Stewart after a restart with only 6 laps remaining.
Martin lead over half (157) of the races 312 circuits, giving him his first victory for a long awaited 97 race winless streak.
Over the last 4 years retirement has been crossing the mind of Martin, maybe he will start to think otherwise after this incredible and fulfilling win at Phoenix International Raceway.
The 50 year old was out front when teammate, Dale Earnhardt Jr's accident brought out a caution with only 11 laps remaining, diminishing his 4 second lead ahead of Tony Stewart.
Many visited Martin after the race, including NASCAR president Mike Helton, former boss Jack Roush and former teammates Kurt Busch, Jeff Burton, Greg Biffle and Matt Kenseth.
